BIBLE STORIES THEATRE OF FINE & PERFORMING ARTS - Awareness In The Arts for Children & Youth
About Us

Bible Stories Theatre of Fine & Performing Arts [BSTFPA] is a 501 (c) 3 non -profit innovative, dynamic, creative, and expressive theatre company that  was founded upon the prophecy that it would be prominent in distinct areas of proficiency that not only embrace stage productions, fine and performing arts, but live children’s TV storytelling as well.  Our mission is to make and bring quality stage productions based on the 40 parables of Jesus Christ to Inner City children and youth.

Children and youth respond to gestures and movement before they react to the spoken word. They understand and explore sound before they learn to speak. They draw pictures before they form letters. They dance and act out stories before they learn to read. Considering this fact, the BSTFPA creative team is committed to nurturing the Inner City child, youth and young adult’s creativity in all areas of theatre design, performance, directing and management and to helping students gain better insights into themselves and the world around them. Then those same children, youth, and young adults can acquire the know-how of the performing traditions and education in the arts under the expert trained eye of the professional BSTFPA faculty. Learn more about our history

Tomette L. Herring, Advisory Board Chairman

  • Ms Herring is the former Founder/Director of Sojourn Theatre and Television Production Company, Inc. Established in May 1990, Sojourn, Northern Virginia’s first Black Theatre Company, pioneered “REAL TV” before it was popular by focusing on saving lives and addressing issues that impact real children, real women, and real families— in real crisis.  Topics included:

HIV/AIDS               Homelessness
Literacy                Depression
Teen-Pregnancy    Child Abuse
Spousal Abuse       (focus on women and
                                    children) Suicide
Ms. Herring’s mission statement was clear:
“To become a powerbase in our society for positively affecting young and old lives, by using theatrical talent as a catalyst for change.”

While she aggressively grew her professional corporate career by day, she simultaneously managed and funded Sojourn to become the No.1 watched show in the area, reaching over 100,000 homes at 6:30 p.m. every Sunday afternoon.

From 1990–1999, Sojourn worked from the prisons to the pulpits and from the colleges to the corporations by carrying a message of hope to be shared through the “Sojourn experience.” By providing theatrical workshops, lectures, full-scale productions, ongoing television segments, and “theatre in the classroom,” Sojourn was strategically positioned to address an underserved audience to include a focus on the family, women and children. During this time Ms. Herring created and executed business development strategy and plans for the theatre company.  She was responsible for budgeting and external account management while maintaining and presenting market studies relevant to Sojourn topics, audience/viewers, clients and strategic partners.
